Total 1977 Corvettes Built- 49,213 – All Coupes

This is what makes your Corvette what it is: America’s only true production sports car.

On the outside: Corvette’s low-slung aerodynamic styling and fiberglass body need no introduction. Also: Lightweight, remove-and-store roof panels convert your Corvette in seconds from closed- to-open-top coupe, or vice versa. This year we’ve made provisions to stow the panels on the available deck-lid luggage carrier if you wish, to give more interior luggage room. Energy-absorbing bumpers covered by soft, molded urethane in body color. Dual molded bumper guards, front and rear. Flush, retracting dual headlamps; dual-unit circular taillights. Soft-Ray tinted glass. Black windshield posts give new “thin pillar” look. 15” x 8” steel wheels with bright hub covers and trim rings. Hide-A-Way windshield wipers. New exterior colors: yellow, black, dark red, orange, dark blue, light blue metallic, tan buckskin. Continued: classic white, silver and medium red.

The cockpit: It’s intimate as only a two-seater can be, yet functional as a sports car must be. Two-level instrumentation. Tachometer and speedometer with trip odometer are centered in front of the driver’s eyes, high on the panel (just below the driver’s road view) on two large circular dials. Voltmeter, coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level and electric clock are on a separate panel, in smaller aircraft-styled dials, at the forward end of the console. Center console puts the following controls at your right hand: shift selector (with new leather boot); heating/ventilation plus ashtray and lighter. Controls for available air conditioning, power windows, Electro-Clear rear window defogger with warning light are also located on the console. New features include a handy coin tray and soft vinyl housing over the parking brake handle. Four-spoke, padded-vinyl-covered steering wheel is now positioned two inches farther from driver to ease entry exit. New column-mounted “Smart-switch “puts these controls at your left hand: turn signals, hi-lo headlight beam selection, windshield wipers and washers. Padded sun shades now swivel to provide some glare protection from side as well as front. Overhead and under panel courtesy lights actuate automatically when either door opens, or manually with headlight switch. Panel-mounted map pockets. Extensive sound insulation. Nylon, cut-pile, color-keyed carpeting for passenger and luggage compartment. Luggage compartment behind seats and two storage chambers (one lockable for valuables), featuring increased ease of access for ’77. Now standard is custom-level interior trim, featuring choice of leather (back cover) or cloth-and-leather seating surfaces on full foam, deep contoured bucket seats. Select from black, buckskin, red, smoke gray, blue or brown. Or choose from leather-seat interiors in white with buckskin, red, smoke gray or blue accents.

The Power Team: Get the one that best suits your personal driving preferences. The standard 350 4-barrel V8 is a rugged power plant with impressive low-speed torque for around-town cruising, but also very willing and responsive on the highway. The standard wide-ratio 4-Speed manual transmission is great for normal driving. The high numerical first-gear ratio gets you off the mark smartly, while wide-range intermediate ratios provide good torque matching at low and intermediate speeds. Corvette Engines have: High Energy Ignition, a solid-state system that delivers up to 85% hotter spark to the plugs than a conventional system. Hydraulic valve lifters. Coolant recovery system to help reduce coolant loss. Delcotron generator with solid-state regulator. Freedom battery needs no refills. Side terminals eliminate corrosion buildup. 3,500-watt rating. Long recommended maintenance intervals: Spark plugs, up to 22,500 miles; engine oil, 6 months or 7,500; oil filter, first 7, 500 miles, then every 15,000 miles; chassis lube, 6 months or 7,500 miles; automatic transmission fluid, 60,000 miles. Check details in the Owner’s Manual.

Energy-absorbing steering column. Safety steering wheel. Passenger-guard door locks. Safety door latches and hinges. Folding seat back latches. Energy-absorbing padded instrument panel.
