Meet and Greet Phoenix, Tucson, and Southwestern participants in Phoenix, AZ. We will meet around noon for an early afternoon departure from Phoenix. We currently have not established a departure point…we will announce the departure later. We plan to meet at a restaurant along S Alma School Road in Mesa for lunch before departing Phoenix on US-60 for Show Low, AZ. I have selected the Holiday Inn Express 151 W Deuce of Clubs in Show Low for our first evening hotel.2

We will depart Friday morning from the Holiday Inn Express parking lot in Show Low. We will caravan along US-60 to the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array Visitor Center west of Magdalena, NM for a tour of the VLA radio telescopes, visitor center, and a rest stop. Following our tour we will travel to Socorro, NM for a late lunch before caravanning up I-25 to the Drury Inn & Suites Albuquerque North at 4310 The 25 Way, our evening host hotel. The Drury has light “Kickback®” evening hot snacks and there are many fine restaurants near the hotel.3

We will caravan from the Drury hotel in Albuquerque to the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque. Lunch is planned at the El Pinto Restaurant in Albuquerque. We will then travel some mountain roads along the Jemez Trail to Jemez Springs, NM and the Bradbury Science Museum in Los Alamos, NM. Following a tour of the Bradbury Science Museum, we will travel to the Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino and the Homewood Suites, 10 Buffalo Trail, adjacent to Buffalo Thunder for our evening hotel.4

After an overnight, we will depart the Buffalo Thunder parking lot to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge...600 feet above the Rio Grande and an adjacent rest area. Continuing through Taos, NM, we will take the “Low Road to Taos” for lunch in Santa Fe before a scenic drive along some of the pre-1937 sections of old Route 66. A planned overnight in Amarillo with dinner at the Big Texan Steak Ranch on Sunday. Our host hotel is planned to be the Holiday Inn Amarillo East and the Hampton Inn Amarillo East, 7777 I-40, next to the Big Texan.5

Monday we will tour the 1936 Conoco Tower and U Drop Inn Cafe in Shamrock, TX before joining the Oklahoma Caravan in El Reno, OK. We are planning lunch at Frontier Chevrolet in El Reno, OK. Following lunch, we will drive along portions of Route 66 to Joplin, MO for the evening. We will not designate a host hotel in Joplin. There are many fine hotels near the Sam’s Club in Joplin, select a hotel of your choice6

Departing from the Sam’s Club parking lot in Joplin, we will travel along scenic US-60 to Cape Girardeau, MO. for the evening. Cape Girardeau is planning a street party to welcome the Corvette Caravans. The Oklahoma and Southern California caravans are expected to be in the Cape for the evening. Our host hotel will be the Drury Hotel and Conference Center, 3351 Percy Dr, Cape Girardeau.7

We are planning a scenic journey from the Cape to Patti's 1880 Settlement for lunch on Wednesday and then driving the Land Between the Lakes to Bowling Green. We have blocks of rooms in BG at the Hyatt Place, 1347 Center St, BG, Microtel Inn, 1980 Mel Browning St, BG, and the Red Roof Inn, 2205 Scottsville Rd, Franklin, KY.
Our Route 66 Arizona and New Mexico Caravan will closely follow old Route 66 with some interesting excursions along very scenic roads that previous caravans have not traveled. Join us for a memorable vacation driving your Corvette.
