Car and Driver’s annual awards cut through the crowded market of more than 300 cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans to find the 10 that live up to their purpose while delivering incredible value and a great driving experience.

“If you’re anything like us, your account balance doesn’t have anywhere near enough commas to make your dream garage a reality. Reconciling your hobbies with life’s responsibilities doesn’t have to mean driving something boring, though. Think of our 10Best winners as enthusiast picks for regular people. This year’s winners include three vehicles with starting prices under $30,000, a full-size truck, a three-row family hauler, and the best deal among luxury autos. We’ve got sports cars, too, of course—three of ’em.”

According to their website, the 10Best starts with a price cap of $90,000 and they invite the most promising vehicles that are new, or significantly changed since the previous years’ competition. They also bring back the previous year’s winners to defend their titles.

The Car and Driver team spends two weeks testing and evaluating the contenders, with 57 on the list for 2021. They focus on the value, fun and mission fulfillment.

“The 10 that took home trophies live up to these ideals better than anything else right now. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, this list is your starting point. Stick to it and you’re guaranteed to take home a winner.”

Making the cut for 2021 was the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. “Styling changes, technology advances, and engines move, but the Corvette remains a performance value for all time.”

Popular Mechanics Announced Annual Automotive Excellence Awards

Throughout the year, the team at Popular Mechanics got behind the wheels of numerous vehicles – from sports cars to sedans to SUVs, driving them on a variety of roads, streets and highways. Using both their own data, and cross-referencing it with experiences and data from other expert sources including Car & Drive, and reliability scores from J.D. Power, Edmunds and Consumer Reports, the team created their list of the best cars and car developments of 2020.

Topping the list as ‘Car of the Year’ is the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

“The economics of making a mid-engine sports car, it seemed, made it impossible to build one for non-millionaires. But this year, Chevrolet found a way. The new Corvette is a fast, agile, covet-worthy stunner of a car, for $60,000.”

“Usually, this level of presence and performance costs you everyday practicality, but Chevy figured out a way around that, too. The Corvette is livable. Actually, comfortable…. And a four-hour trip in heavy traffic and rain, the kind of drive that would be exhausting in any vehicle, was mostly pleasant.”

As part of the National Corvette Museum’s 26th Anniversary Celebration, Kentucky Senator Mike Wilson presented GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant Manager Kai Spande with a Senate Resolution – an award that recognizes the Corvette team for their successful launch of the next generation Corvette, and celebrates the Corvette being named North American Car of the Year. The resolution was originally adopted in March, but due to the pandemic and the Corvette Plant stopping production, the presentation of it was delayed.

The Resolution reads as follows:

Senate
Commonwealth of Kentucky
2020 Regular Session
Senate Resolution No. 57
Thursday, March 19, 2020

Senator Mike Wilson introduced the following resolution which was ordered to be printed.

A Resolution honoring Corvette and acknowledging the General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green.

Whereas, Kentucky has established itself as an auto manufacturing hub, ranking thir in the country in passenger vehicle production; and

Whereas, the all-new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has been named the 2020 North American Car of the Year by a 50-member jury of independent automotive journalists; and

Whereas, production of the 2020 model will begin next month here in the Commonwealth with customer deliveries taking place shortly thereafter; and

Whereas, the Corvette was previously honored with this award in 1998 for the introduction of the fifth-generation vehicle and again in 2014 for its seventh-generation model;

Now, Therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The members of the Senate, both individually and collectively, recognize the honor bestowed on General Motors and, by extension, on the Commonwealth of Kentucky by this award, and congratulate the company and those GM employees involved in the design of the new Corvette Stingray.

On Tuesday, March 10 the National Corvette Museum celebrated the first Museum-delivered 2020 Corvette. Glenn and Andrea Johnson of Port Neches, Texas were the first customers to pick up their ‘next generation’ mid-engine Corvette through option R8C, the Museum Delivery Program.

When ordering a new Corvette, customers may select option “R8C,” designating their car for Museum pickup. The ‘red-carpet’ VIP experience includes signage welcoming the customers to the Museum, a guided tour of the Museum where their Corvette is on display (and plant tour when available), a quality and detailed orientation on the car followed by celebratory drive out of the Museum for photos. Delivery customers are provided with the opportunity to take an NCM Motorsports Park-owned Corvette for touring laps around the road course to round out their day.

VIN 29, a Torch Red Stingray Coupe, arrived on Friday, March 6 along with ten other R8C optioned cars and one car for the NCM Motorsports Park. This was the first R8C Delivery for the Johnsons, and the sixth Corvette they have owned. Glenn joined the Museum’s board of directors in 2015 and currently serves as chair.

“Being involved with the Museum, I felt that not only does their Delivery program do such a good job, but it is also another way we can support the mission of the Museum,” shared Glenn.

The Johnsons first purchased a 1982 Corvette, which they kept for several years. In 2005 he and wife, Andrea, had retired and shortly thereafter purchased a 2007 Convertible. It was a car that they traveled very little in at the time. While googling Corvette, Glenn came across the website for the National Corvette Museum and decided to join as a member. They’d visited Bowling Green in 1989, touring the Corvette Plant, but had not returned since.

“I got online and saw where the Museum was having an annual celebration, and asked Andrea if she’d like to go to Bowling Green. She said, ‘you’re actually going to take your car?’ It’s a day and a half drive for us. But we got in the car and came!”

Glenn recalls being warmly greeted and thoroughly impressed with the facility. The Museum was under construction with a new addition. That evening at the hotel he met other Corvette owners and became fast friends. “They saw us in our Corvette shirts, and we started talking about Corvette and the Museum. We learned they were very involved and big supporters of the Museum, involved with their clubs back home, and they drove their cars. If they got a rock chip, it was a badge of honor.”

By the time the Johnsons left Bowling Green, they were Lifetime Members. Since that time the couple have joined various Museum giving groups including the Spire Society, NCM Circle of Friends, and annual Winner’s Circle. Andrea joined Elfi’s Silver Pearl Sisterhood as well.

“I always encourage other Corvette enthusiasts to get involved with the Museum at whatever level they feel comfortable, to get involved with their local Corvette club, and to DRIVE their Corvette and enjoy it,” added Glenn.

“We thank the Johnsons not only for taking delivery with us today, but also for their thirteen years of supporting this nonprofit foundation,” shared Dr. Sean Preston, President and CEO of the National Corvette Museum. “People like Glenn and Andrea are the lifeblood of this organization and we love being able to celebrate such a fun and exciting day like this with them.”

The Museum will deliver nearly 600, 2020 model year, Corvettes over the next several months. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Museum Delivery Program, with over 12,000 Corvettes having been delivered at the Museum since the program’s inception.

Commemorative items that are incorporated into the Delivery Program include the option to place a unique decal on the inside of the drivers’ door jamb to signify that the car was picked up at the Museum. Customers are presented with an individual one-year NCM membership, special lapel pin and a recognition plaque. R8C delivered Corvettes also feature a special license plate frame, and an interior nameplate with the customer’s name, date of delivery and VIN inside the car. Exclusive NCM Delivery merchandise may be ordered by participants. Customers who are bringing children along for the experience can notify the Museum to receive special perks through the Glazer Family Delivery Program.

Deliveries can be viewed world-wide on the Museum’s webcams at corvettemuseum.org. New Corvette buyers can add option code R8C to their order through any dealer. The program is an additional $995. Additional details on R8C and other unique programs is available on the Museum’s website.

The Museum is in Bowling Green, Kentucky at I-65 exit 28, on the same street at the world’s only Corvette assembly plant. Open daily, 8am-5pm CT, the Museum offers guided and self-guided tours, a Café, Corvette Store, racing simulator, seasonal Corvette rides, KidZone, meeting space, collector car insurance through NCM Insurance Agency and more. Across I-65 is the NCM Motorsports Park, offering hot lap Corvette rides, touring laps putting you behind the wheel of a Corvette, high speed go-karts, high performance driving events, short- and long-term garage rentals, meeting space and more.

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the newest generation of an American icon, is MotorWeek’s 2020 Drivers’ Choice Award winner for “Best of the Year.” The full slate of awards was announced today on the floor of the Chicago Auto Show, the nation’s largest consumer automotive showcase. MotorWeek, TV’s original automotive magazine, has evaluated thousands of impressive cars in nearly four decades – and this year’s top winner deserves all the accolades it will surely receive.

MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Awards evaluators expressed that this iteration of Stingray, 66 years in the making, has been well worth the wait. Described as precise, confident, and incredibly responsive, with driver-centric cockpit and ergonomics, they said the Corvette Stingray breaks all the rules written by its predecessors. This eighth-generation design is the first production Corvette with the engine mounted behind the driver while producing an amazingly quiet cabin environment.

MotorWeek Creator and Host John Davis said, “Chevrolet has managed to engineer a vehicle that delivers on performance, comfort, technology, and aesthetics, the likes of which will give its global rivals more than a little heartburn, and they’ve done it all for a base price of just under $60,000.”

“I love the fact that the new Stingray still centers on a naturally aspirated small-block V-8. The new LT2 engine is a delight, and fits seamlessly with the super-fast shifting dual-clutch automatic,” said Davis. “The whole Stingray package is impressively well thought out and executed.”

“We’re honored to have the Corvette chosen as MotorWeek’s Best of the Year winner,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet passenger car and crossover marketing. “The first mid-engine Corvette represents a huge milestone for Chevrolet and we’re eager for our customers to get behind the wheel.”

The 2020 Drivers’ Choice Award winners are featured on Motorweek.org, and will appear on a special episode of MotorWeek (#3923) airing on public television stations beginning February 8, and on cable’s MotorTrend Network beginning February 18.

MotorWeek and the 2020 Drivers’ Choice Awards are nationally sponsored by The Tire Rack® and RockAuto.

One of the auto industry’s most coveted honors, MotorWeek’s Drivers’ Choice Awards were announced at the largest consumer-driven auto show in North America, the 2020 Chicago Auto Show.

In selecting the annual Drivers’ Choice Awards, the MotorWeek editorial staff evaluates more than 150 cars, trucks, and sports utility vehicles every year. Winners are chosen based on driving performance, technology, practicality, fuel efficiency, and value for the dollar.
