The National Corvette Museum is proud to share the stories behind the Corvettes on display in our nostalgic 1970s Chevrolet dealership exhibit. While some cars in our collection were once owned by celebrities or are rare special editions, many represent something just as meaningful: the passion of everyday enthusiasts who lived and loved the Corvette lifestyle.

Among them is a white 1975 Corvette Stingray, donated by Edmund De Lussey and his son Liam in memory of Edmund’s father. Known for its sleek profile and strong C3-era styling, this Corvette was so well-preserved it earned an NCRS Top Flight Award®. Liam, who frequently rode shotgun with his grandfather, suggested donating the car—knowing it was meant to be treasured, not sold.

Next to the Stingray is a 1977 Corvette in blue, donated by Elizabeth “Libby” Smith. Libby received the car from her parents as a reward for academic success in college. Because she worked hard to earn it, she kept it in near-perfect condition, leading to another Top Flight Award®. Museum staff were especially impressed by its pristine interior.

Completing the trio is a red 1979 Corvette, donated by Claudia J. Stodghill. With under 5,000 miles and its original tires intact, this car offers a rare glimpse into a nearly untouched C3 Corvette. The 1979 model year was historic: Corvette set an all-time sales record with 53,807 units sold, marking a high point in Corvette’s popularity.

At the National Corvette Museum, we are honored to preserve these vehicles as a tribute to the owners who kept their Corvettes in extraordinary condition and chose to share them with future generations. They are part of the living legacy of America’s Sports Car.

The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has officially arrived, delivering unprecedented performance and technology as the most powerful and most advanced Corvette ever produced. With a staggering 1,250 horsepower, an electrified all-wheel-drive system, and supercar-dominating acceleration, the ZR1X represents a major leap forward for America’s Sports Car.

Built in Bowling Green. Preserved at the National Corvette Museum.

Every 2026 Corvette ZR1X is built at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, located just one mile from the National Corvette Museum. From factory to exhibit floor, Corvette history is both made and celebrated in the heart of Kentucky.

“It’s an honor to be here today. No one else builds a car like this,” said Josh Holder, Corvette Chief Engineer. “The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X competes with vehicles that cost ten times more, and it’s built right here in the USA — in Bowling Green, Kentucky.”

2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Specs and Performance

Under the rear hatch, the ZR1X features a hand-built LT7 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 generating 1,064 horsepower, combined with a front electric motor that adds 186 horsepower and instant torque. This advanced propulsion system enables:

1,250 combined horsepower

0 to 60 mph in under 2 seconds (GM-estimated)

Quarter-mile times under 9 seconds

Top speed among the highest ever for a production Corvette

With Magnetic Ride Control, carbon ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics, and modes like Push-to-Pass and Endurance, the ZR1X brings race-ready technology to the road. The available ZTK Performance Package and Carbon Aero options enhance downforce and grip for maximum control.

Triple-Screen Cockpit and Corvette Innovation

Inside, the 2026 Corvette ZR1X debuts a new triple-screen digital cockpit, combining high-performance telemetry with next-generation design. Premium materials and intuitive controls reflect Corvette’s evolution as a luxury-performance benchmark. The LT7 engine is hand-assembled at the Performance Build Center, a hallmark of Corvette’s craftsmanship.

Experience the Legacy of Corvette Performance

The National Corvette Museum is proud to celebrate this milestone in Corvette history. As the ZR1X pushes Corvette into new territory, the Museum continues its mission to educate and inspire through world-class exhibits, archival collections, and immersive experiences.

Visitors to the Museum can explore more than 100 historic Corvettes, including performance icons, engineering milestones, and the technologies that paved the way to the ZR1X. Events like the Michelin Bash and the Anniversary Celebration bring the Corvette community together to honor the car that changed everything.

Chevrolet will pace all three NASCAR national touring series races this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. Each season-opening race will be paced by a different Chevrolet model powered by a distinct variant of Chevy’s famed 6.2L small block V-8 engine with ties to Chevrolet Cup Series racing engines. Chevrolet’s three pace vehicles will produce a cumulative 1370 horsepower.

The mid-engine Corvette Stingray coupe will serve as the pace car for the renowned Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 14. At the heart of Corvette is a LT2 V-8, visible through the rear glass hatch, which produces 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque when equipped with the Z51 performance package – the most horsepower and torque for any entry Corvette.

Also pacing the field this weekend:

Silverado 1500 RST in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ NextEra Energy 250 at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 12

Camaro SS 1LE in the Xfinity Series’ Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. 300 at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 13

Chevy MyWay gives race fans more to enjoy

For the first time, key members of Team Chevy will present a behind-the-scenes look at elements of Daytona’s history and the technology used in current Daytona races. “Live from Daytona” will showcase the rare GM Firebird I concept, highlight the history behind the Harley J. Earl trophy, compare the Camaro ZL1 1LE street and NASCAR Cup Series cars and feature the 2021 Daytona 500 Corvette pace car.

“Live from Daytona” is presented by Chevy MyWay, a virtual showroom-like studio, providing customers a new and innovative way to interact with Chevrolet products. The free 20-minute broadcast is open to all, and begins Saturday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. ET on Chevrolet.com/myway.

“Coming off of a successful 2020 on track in all three NASCAR national series, our drivers and teams are fired up and looking to put Chevrolet back in Victory Lane, starting at Daytona,” said Tony Johnson, director of Chevrolet Car and Crossover Marketing. “In addition to exciting green-flag racing, we’re really looking forward to showing off the Daytona 500 Corvette Stingray pace car and so much more for race fans Saturday during the ‘Live from Daytona’ broadcast presented by Chevy MyWay.”

All three Chevrolet pace vehicles have a racy red, white and blue theme inspired by the 2021 Daytona 500 logo. The Corvette-exclusive Rapid Blue color is featured on each vehicle and will make its debut as an available option on the 2022 Camaro. A tiled pattern using the Chevrolet bowtie, red accents, bold white lettering and pace car lighting complete the look for Corvette, Camaro and Silverado.

This marks the sixth time a Corvette has paced the Daytona 500. Overall, Chevrolet has paced The Great American Race 14 times.

The 455-horsepower LT1-powered 2021 Camaro SS 1LE is equipped to deliver high-performance thrills. The optional 1LE performance package with magnetic ride control offers 1.02g cornering capability.

Silverado is built to do the job right – every time. The Silverado RST is powered by an optional 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 engine, which offers 420 horsepower.

In 2021, Chevrolet is campaigning the Camaro ZL1 1LE in the NASCAR Cup Series, Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Silverado in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Chevrolet has won The Great American Race 24 times – more than any other manufacturer.

A familiar face from General Motors is re-emerging from retirement to join the team at the National Corvette Museum. Tom Peters, former Director of Design for the GM Performance Car Studio and 2019 Corvette Hall of Fame inductee, has joined the Museum’s curatorial team effective January 2021 as Consulting Curator of Exhibits. Tom is no stranger when it comes to assisting with Museum exhibits, having co-curated ‘Car-toon Creatures, Kustom Kars and Corvettes: The Art and Influence of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’, a special exhibit that officially opened in January, 2020 and continues through April, 2021.

“Sean had the thought to see if Tom would be interested in being involved with the Museum in a more official capacity after his co-curation of the Rat Fink exhibit,” shared Derek E. Moore, Director of Collections / Curator at the Museum. “Of course, his design background with GM is huge and we figured the best use of his talents would be in aiding us in the overall visual experience of our exhibits at the Museum.”

The Museum’s collections team, including Derek and Associate Curator Bob Bubnis, collaborate to develop a narrative plan and storyline for each exhibit, with plans to bring Tom into the fold to dig even deeper into the stories and the look of the exhibit.

“We want Tom to help build up our exhibits, tapping into his first-hand experience behind GM’s closed doors,” said Derek. “Tom can take those stories that are text on a label and help us bring them alive visually. We will look at how we can use the cars and artifacts we have to make our exhibits as much of a visual experience as they are educational – balancing the storyline with something visually interesting for our guests.”

With over 18 months of leadership at the National Corvette Museum under his belt, Dr. Sean Preston, President and CEO, is excited to continue investing in exhibits and Corvette history.

“We have Corvette Racing’s Andy Pilgrim as our resident track pro at the NCM Motorsports Park, and now Tom Peters as a resident design pro at the National Corvette Museum. We are not only preserving and showcasing Corvette history, now we have a direct connection to that history – someone who was not only there to experience it, but who made that history during his career. This is truly a historic hire for the National Corvette Museum. We care deeply for the cars and artifacts in our care, but we also curate Corvette culture. Tom has a wealth of experience and understanding in both areas. He will be a welcomed addition to the already successful Curatorial and Collections team.”

“I think the Museum has a great relationship with GM but bringing Tom on board just makes those connections even stronger,” added Derek. “I’m excited to tap into his nearly 40 years of experience with the iconic automaker.”

Even General Motors is excited about the move and looking forward to how Tom’s skills can be further utilized to preserve, educate and promote the iconic Corvette.

Tom Peters, pictured with General Motors President Mark Reuss, celebrate Peters’ induction into the Corvette Hall Fame in 2019.

“I can’t think of a better choice for this position than Tom Peters,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors president. “His institutional knowledge of Corvette and his enthusiasm for it are unmatched. Through the years, he has played a crucial role in maintaining Corvette’s status as America’s Sports Car, and, as Consulting Curator of Exhibits, he will ensure the National Corvette Museum remains the ultimate caretaker of Corvette’s storied history and its dynamic future.”

Tom is looking forward to playing a role in the Museum’s exhibits moving forward, with a combination of remote work and regularly planned stints physically working in the Museum.

“The invitation to work with the National Corvette Museum, the first thing that struck me is that it’s a fabulous honor,” shared Tom. “I’ve always felt that working with the Corvette team was not only a dream and a privilege, but an incredible adventure and I’ve always regarded Chevrolet and Corvette as family. This is an extension and continuation of that. Working with Chevrolet and the Corvette team becomes more than just a job, it’s part of your life and lifestyle.”

First up for Tom will be helping to refine the new Enthusiast exhibit area, and Damsels of Design exhibit – which was fully funded by Elfi’s Silver Pearl Sisterhood, a female-led philanthropic giving society of the Museum.

“We are excited that Tom was open to this opportunity. It’s really going to bring the Museum to another level with the visual design of our exhibits,” added Derek.

“To me, the possibilities are wide open,” said Tom. “From the viewpoint of a customer coming in, or an enthusiast, you want them to feel like they’re part of the team so they experience the excitement whether it’s design, engineering, racing or even how you market cars. We have the opportunity to help guests fully understand the rich heritage behind what has inspired Corvette over the years in terms of vision, design and development… the way they have evolved and influenced culture around the world.”

The new Enthusiast area will be funded through the generous support of contributors to the Museum’s 2020 fall giving campaign. If you’ve not yet made your end-of-year tax-deductible donations and would like to support this new exhibit, click here to make an online gift. Donations may also be mailed to the Museum at 350 Corvette Drive, Bowling Green, KY 42101.

“Thank you to all of our amazing members and supporters,” said Sean. “Without you, we would not be able to grow and continue enhancing this Gateway to All Things Corvette. We can’t wait to show you all the new exhibits.”

Last month we shared with you photos of a fully-painted example of a Red Mist Corvette. Since then, the same but in Silver Flare has been highly anticipated. Silver Flare is one of two new colors for 2021, and is replacing Blade Silver. The two new colors originally debuted at the National Corvette Museum’s 26th Anniversary Celebration with sample panels being revealed by GM Bowling Green Assembly.

As with in most Corvette colors, you are really going to want to see this in person to gain the full affect. The Silver Flare is a color that GM team members describe as having a lot of ‘travel’ – meaning that as you walk around the car, the color can look different. Ask anyone to describe the hue, and you’ll get different answers. The lighting and position greatly affect what the color looks like.

Shout-out to GM Bowling Green Assembly for giving us the opportunity to shoot this early build 2021 Silver Flare Hard Top Convertible!

Thanks to General Motors we were able to get some photos of the new Red Mist color on a freshly painted early build 2021 Corvette. If you’re lucky, you might see the car driving around Bowling Green. Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter shared during his seminar as part of the Museum’s 26th Anniversary that he, too, would be driving a 2021 Red Mist Corvette.

The color replaces Long Beach Red, which debuted for the 2016 model year. Production of the 2021 Corvette is anticipated to start sometime in November with an exact date being fluid as production of the current 2020 model year continues.

The Chevrolet Corvette C8.R, Corvette Racing’s first-ever mid-engine GT Le Mans challenger in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, is now available on iRacing. As part of the 2020 Season 4 build, iRacers can purchase the new car to compete in events throughout the service, including iRacing’s IMSA Online SportsCar Championship.

“Corvette Racing is on a roll this season with the C8.R, and we are excited for iRacing fans to experience the exhilarating mid-engine performance of this car in the virtual world,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance and Motorsports.

“We’re excited to continue our long-standing relationship with Chevrolet as we welcome the Corvette C8.R to iRacing,” said Steve Myers, iRacing executive vice president and executive producer. “The C8.R has already proven to be incredibly popular in the real world, and our users have been requesting it ever since it made its public debut last year. We’d like to thank General Motors, Pratt & Miller and Corvette Racing for their support in bringing the C8.R to the virtual world, and we look forward to iRacers getting their hands on it for the first time this week!”

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray made history as the first-ever mid-engine car to carry the Corvette name, and the Corvette C8.R was designed to live up to that legacy. There is a deeper level of technology transfer between the race car and production Corvette than ever before, which helps contribute to many of its advancements. The C8.R produces approximately 500 horsepower from a 5.5-liter V-8 engine and made its racing debut in the 2020 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Dominant out of the box, the new entry took a victory in just its third race with drivers Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor, launching Corvette Racing into a three-race winning streak that included back-to-back 1-2 finishes at Sebring International Raceway and Road America. Within iRacing, the C8.R joins a diverse fleet of Chevrolets available to users, from both current and vintage NASCAR cars and trucks to past Corvette sports cars that have won iconic events at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans.

The world leader in the online racing simulation and gaming market, iRacing was founded in 2004 by Dave Kaemmer and John Henry. Kaemmer was co-founder of Papyrus Design Group, developer of award-winning racing simulations, including Grand Prix Legends and NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. Henry is principal owner of the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club, as well as co-owner of NASCAR’s Roush Fenway Racing. iRacing has developed dozens of formal partnerships in the motorsport industry to help create the most authentic racing simulation in the world, and stages dozens of championships each year across multiple racing disciplines. The Corvette C8.R will be available for use in multiple series open to the public, including the IMSA iRacing Online SportsCar Championship.

Corvette Racing and the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R continue the quest for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sept. 25-27 with a visit to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Visit the Chevrolet Racing news page for more information about Corvette Racing and the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R.

As part of the National Corvette Museum’s 26th Anniversary Celebration GM Bowling Green Assembly debuted for the first time actual painted panels of the two new colors for 2021 – Red Mist Metallic Tintcoat and Silver Flare Metallic. Below are photos comparing them to 2020 colors including Torch Red (which will continue for 2021), Long Beach Red and Blade Silver (which the colors replace).

During the Corvette presentation on Friday, Harlan Charles described the Silver Flare as having a ‘lot of travel’ and looking very different as you walk around the car. The Red Mist was described as a ‘firey red, brighter than some of the ones we’ve previously done.’

Harlan and Tadge indicated that the very first 2021 validation cars are in the process of being built with Silver Mist being the first, and Red Mist being the fourth – so the opportunity to ‘see’ a full car in the color is forthcoming. Those cars are pre-production and gives the team a few months to check them out before building customer cars.
