Tour of J. Spanky Bunch Art Gallery

Josh grew up in Williamsburg, KY, in a community known as “Slabtown”. He received the nickname, “Spanky” while participating in Little League Baseball, due to his strong resemblance to the character on “The Little Rascals”, and the nickname stuck. Much, of Josh’s artwork, expresses a deep seeded sentimentality, for having grown up in small town, KY. Consistent themes in his artwork, concern his spirituality, his interest in music, and his passionate interpretation of Eastern KY living.

Being a self-taught artist, he instead opened an art studio in California, where he would endure the triumphs and failures of the creative world. After losing direction as an artist, he returned to Connecticut to start a family with his wife, Susan. Over a thirty-two-year period, the Ventura family has managed to build their own house, develop a farm, raise three children, take care of Miguel’s parents and keep their business thriving. As rock climbing and tourism have exploded in the last ten years, Miguel’s Pizza has made its name all around the world as a friendly and dependable place to find tasty, fresh and reasonably priced food with a great atmosphere in a world class location.

Visitors to the area have gotten a thrill walking across the landmark 30-foot wide natural sandstone arch for well over a century. Currently, the park contains about 2,300 acres and is surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest. The natural sandstone arch that is the key point of this KY state park spans an impressive 78 feet and is over 65 feet high.
