Museum in Motion NYC: America’s City

REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT HAS CLOSED

Join the National Corvette Museum and former Board Member Wes Wong for a Museum in Motion (MiM) event to New York City to visit the 9/11 Museum and Memorial and to see the Big Apple as a local.  Wes spent thirty years as a Special Agent in the FBI New York Office and will share his insights and history of the city to add to the experience of the visit.

The MiM will begin with a Meet and Greet at the Residence Inn in Secaucus NJ, followed by two full days of activities in New York City. We will honor those that were lost on 9/11 by laying a wreath at the 9/11 Memorial Fountain and taking a guided tour of the 9/11 Museum. Wes will provide a true insider’s perspective of the Museum’s exhibits since he was the Senior FBI on-scene commander at Ground Zero on 9/11. After the tour, Wes will give a talk on what it was like to be at Ground Zero on that fateful day.  During this visit there will be time to sightsee, shop and have lunch in the revitalized lower Manhattan area. Highlights of the area include:

Brookfield Place
Enjoy Hudson River views while you flip through the racks at dozens of high-end stores including Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton and Joie. This expansive mall features a picturesque atrium with real palm trees, perfect for snapping sunset selfies. During breaks from shopping, check out the tons of food options and the waterfront terrace.

Eataly Downtown
Modeled after the European style of open-air grocery shopping, Eataly is your base for all things Italian. Equal parts market, food hall and scuola, Eataly Downtown offers high-quality products for sale like olive oil, cheese, pasta and vinegar as well as multiple restaurants for dining or takeout.

Westfield World Trade Center
Built inside the World Trade Center Transportation Hub’s bright-white Oculus, Westfield World Trade Center comprises over 100 stores that range from apparel and footwear to tech and cosmetics. Brands include Apple, Sephora, Dior Beauty Boutique, Kate Spade and Montblanc. This one-of-a-kind space hosts special events and a number of restaurants, too.

An added attraction will be the opportunity to purchase FBI merchandise, which is usually only available to FBI personnel. The FBI New York Office has graciously agreed to support the fundraiser by offering the attendees the opportunity to bring home a remembrance of the event that is not available to the public.  The New York Office holds a very special relationship with Ground Zero since the FBI was the lead agency investigating the 9/11 attack and lost members of the FBI family that fateful day.

The trip will also include a Circle Line sightseeing cruise that will completely circumnavigate around the island of Manhattan. You’ll cruise along all three NYC rivers, pass under 20 bridges and see over 130 of the city’s most iconic landmarks including the full Manhattan skyline, the impressive One World Trade Center, the growing Brooklyn waterfront, the legendary Yankee Stadium, beautiful Gracie Mansion, the stately George Washington Bridge and, of course, an up-close look at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island!

We will visit the world-famous Times Square area, home of the Theater District, wonderful retail shops and dining. You will have time to take in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area, see the bright lights of Broadway and the theater marquees, shop for that unique item and have lunch at one of the hundreds of local restaurants.

Two unique dinners are planned while in New York. The first will be at the Classic Car Club which is open to members and their guests only and not the general public.  The Club is located along the Hudson River, and weather permitting, we will witness a beautiful sunset over the Hudson River during the dinner. The Club is a motoring enthusiasts haven, housing a mix of classic and exotic cars. The evening will start with a cash bar. You will be able to enjoy your drink viewing the car collection, relaxing at the bar and lounge area or enjoying the outdoor patio with a beautiful view of the Hudson River. The dinner will feature guest speakers. The Assistant Director of the FBI New York Office will be in attendance (FBI schedule permitting) and will speak about the FBI and current threats to the Nation’s security. Michelin and Mobil 1 representatives will talk about their latest technologies.

The second dinner will be at Connolly’s, a traditional Irish pub, located in the heart of Times Square. For those in law enforcement like Wes, nothing is more New York than a good old-fashioned Irish Pub. We will have our own event space featuring a bar and dining area. Like the dinner at the Classic Car Club, the evening will start out with a cash bar followed by dinner. After dinner, Wes will recount some of his experiences gained during his FBI career which included numerous undercover roles. For those who have heard Wes speak previously, you know he’s a wonderful storyteller and it will be a fitting end to a memorable event.

To add to the true New York experience as a local, we depart Connolly’s on foot for the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Most New Yorker’s utilize mass transit to get into and around the city. The walk (approximately ten minutes) will give us an opportunity to experience the lights of Times Square after dark. Once at the Port Authority, we will board a NJ Transit bus for the trip back to the hotel.

It should be noted this is not your traditional NCM MiM. There are no planned road trips where you will need your vehicle. Transportation from the Residence Inn to NYC and back is included in the registration. We will travel to each destination in a group. For those flying in, Newark International Airport is approximately a twenty-minute drive to the Residence Inn in Secaucus. We will be utilizing mass transit and there will be considerable walking, up to a mile between destinations. There will be the option for taxis and car services at your expense.

This unique event will support both the NCM and the 9/11 Museum Foundations, which are very dear to Wes’ heart. He hopes this event will raise significant donations to both Museums.

Advance registration closes at 2pm CDT on Tuesday, Aug 23, 2022 or until sold out.

No registrations or refunds are available after that date.
