National Corvette Museum Teacher's Corner

The National Corvette Museum offers many opportunities for school groups who would like a fun, yet educational field trip! The Museum is pleased to offer deeply discounted rates for students, and not only do you get one teacher free with every 10 students, but bus drivers are also free, too!

While the Museum has many interactive and hands-on exhibits which are on permanent display, we also have special traveling exhibits to appeal to your students!

Learning Goals

The visitor learning goals will guide the selection of all exhibition concepts and design:

For Children (5-8 years old)

  • Amazing things happen that are too small to see with just your eyes.

  • Scientists and kids can use tools to observe these small things.

  • Small things are made up of even smaller pieces.

  • There are many small things inside my body.

  • Nano is really really small.

  • Lay the groundwork and create a context for future learning about Nanobiotechnology.

For Adults and Older Children

  • Scientists can interact with small things and they are developing tiny things to help my body.

  • Relative size of different small things.

  • Relate what scientists do to things I've already experienced.

  • Inspire curiosity and want to know more about Nanobiotechnology.

Target Audience

The target audience for this traveling exhibition is 5 to 8 year-old children (Kindergarten through Third Grade). Children in this age range typically have little exposure to these topics in school or at home.

This will be an introduction to the nano world, and will provide a groundwork upon which visitors can build with future experiences.

"Last week we brought a group of 30 preschoolers (ages 3 - 5) to the NCM for a field trip and it was a super experience.  Anita Shrader helped us plan the trip and served as our guide during our visit.  The children loved both the touring exhibit from the Louisville Children's Museum as well as the traditional NCM exhibits.  They were able to see all the things we have been talking about in class, including "sculptures" "art" "artifacts" and so much more.  We had talked about the "ropes" that marked off special areas and they truly understood the things in those sections were not for touching.  Chris Sweeney jumped right in and helped the children at the Pit Stop.  They are still talking about it!  We purchased copies of Vinnie the Vette for each student and Anita and Lisa autographed each of the books.  Anita came to the school after the field trip and read the book to the children.  They were so excited to meet a real author.  I could go on and on about this great experience, but I just really wanted to say thank you for making such a great opportunity and experience available to our young students!"

Thank you again for a wonderful field trip experience. My kids loved the museum! They are still talking about it. I appreciate your flexibility with the mix up on the first day. We fully expect to be back this semester with a new group of kids.
