The advantage is clear. With paint protection film, the most vulnerable areas of a vehicle have an extra measure of protection from:
- Insect stains and abrasions
- Scratches and nicks
- Small road debris damage
- Winter road salt and sand
Clearly the best protection you’ll never see
Your new vehicle is vulnerable to damage the minute you drive it off the lot. Traditional methods of protecting your car’s paint, such as bras and bug shields, can actually cause further damage, are unsightly and obscure the color brilliance you were originally aiming to protect.
These nearly undetectable, protective urethane films are designed to resist impact from the everyday damaging road hazards such as gravel, debris, stones, road salt and even insects.
It's practically invisible
A clear, protective film so it won't change the appearance of your vehicle and it won't harm your paint.
It's durable, dependable and guaranteed
Thick, durable urethane film designed to withstand solar energy, high temperatures and resist impact. It also comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
It's customized to fit your vehicle
Pre-cut according to vehicle make, model and year - so it isn't necessary to cut or trim on the vehicle itself. The film won't compromise vehicle surfaces; it is applied without any holes or fasteners. It protects hoods, bumpers and mirrors. And, it also works great on boats and RVs.
It's installed by qualified professionals
Dealers are professionals experienced in the proper preparation, installation and care of the product.
It won't harm paint finish
It is unlike vehicle bras, which are cumbersome, dramatically alter vehicle appearance and cause paint chaffing.
It doesn't require special maintenance
Simply clean, wash and wax your vehicle the way you always have.
The performance is guaranteed with a 5-year limited manufacturer's warranty that the film:
- Won't crack, peel or bubble
- Won't discolor or turn yellow
- Will stay put
- Will remain optically clear

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Will it really stop rocks from chipping the front of my car?
A. Yes. The material that it is made from was originally designed to protect the leading edges of aircraft propellers and rotor blades from rock chips. It is a much easier task to protect your vehicles' paint than it is to protect an aircraft propeller moving at nearly the speed of sound.
Q. Can I see a line where it stops?
A. A line is slightly visible where the film stops, but the three alternatives to that line are a bug shield, a car bra or rock chips, all of which will be more visible than a paint protection film.
Q. How hard is it to see on the car after it is applied?
A. The material is about 99.5% clear. On any color darker than stark white you can't see the film. On a stark white car, you can see that .5% of color, but it is "invisible" at a short distance.
Q. How long will it last? When will I have to replace the kit?
A. The product is warranted for five years.
Q. Will my paint fade differently under the shield than it does on the rest of the car?
A. No. The material does contain an inhibitor to prevent the plastic from reacting to the sun's UV rays, but this does not prevent the UV rays from passing through the plastic into your paint.
Q. Can it be removed?
A. Yes. It can be removed easily and you will not damage the paint. To remove the film, you must heat the film on your car to approximately 150 degrees using a heat gun or a hair dryer. Start in a corner and gently work the film with your finger. Once you have enough of the material free from the surface to hold on to, slowly pull the film from the paint working just behind the heat source. The film will easily release from the paint and will not leave a residue.
Q. Will it harm the painted surface if the film is removed?
A. If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece, without damaging paint surfaces beneath the film.
Q. Can it be applied over a vehicle that has had the paint touched up?
A. It is recommended that any repainted surfaces on your vehicle be professionally painted and fully cured before applying paint protection film. If you have touched up scratches or chips with a tube of "touch-up" paint and then apply paint protection film over it, the film will protect that area until it is removed. If the paint protection film is removed, it is possible that the area around the non-professional touch-up paint could peel off.
Q. Will the paint smear if it is applied over a newly painted vehicle?
A.The paint on a newly painted vehicle must be cured according to manufacturer's recommendations. Your body shop should be able to provide you with this information.
Q. Can you paint or apply a clearcoat over the film?
A. No, this is not recommended and is at your own risk.
Q. Can I cover the whole vehicle?
A. It is possible, but the application would be difficult and expensive. This product is really intended for the most vulnerable areas of the vehicle.
Q. Can it be applied over graphics?
A. The clear film will not interfere with vinyl or painted graphics and is designed to match the gloss levels of today's automotive factory clearcoat paint systems, providing virtually invisible protection. However, if it is removed, damage may occur to the underlying graphic during the removal process.
Q. Can it be used on headlights, foglights or windshields?
A. In the United States, it does not meet the Department of Transportation's standards for optical clarity. Other countries may have different legislation. Please contact your local Representative to help answer this question in your country.
Q. Does it stick to bumpers?
A. Yes.
Q. Does it stick to plastic?
A. Yes.
Q. Can it be used on boats or other watercraft?
A. Yes. Marine requirements are different than automotive, so it is important to contact 3M's Marine Trades Division for information on these applications. For specific information, please call 3M Marine at 1-877-366-2746 for assistance.
Q. Can it be used on aircraft?
A. Aircraft requirements are completely different than automotive, so it is important to contact 3M's Aerospace Division for information on these applications. Please call 1-888-364-3577 for assistance
Q. Can it be used for signs?
A. The film would probably stick, but you would need to test any specific application. There is no specific testing data for signs, so no warranty can be offered.
Q. Does it resist yellowing?
A. Yes, it resists yellowing because the film is constructed of thermoplastic urethane, a tough, conformable material that is covered by a clear coat layer. The film and clear coat layers contain UV protectants to counteract harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause yellowing.
Q. Does it come in colors?
A. It is available only as a clear film. This feature makes the film virtually invisible while protecting the beauty of your vehicle.
Q. How is it maintained?
A. Once applied, refrain from washing the vehicle in an automated car wash for 24 hours. Washing after that time presents no problem, and no special care need be taken for the film.
Q. Can I use wax over the film?
A. Yes. When waxing the vehicle, some wax may build up along the film edges. This can easily be removed when dry with a soft cloth. Do not use any waxes containing dyes or waxes that are not recommended for urethanes. Abrasive polishes and/or rubbing compounds are not to be used.
Q. If the film is removed from the vehicle, can it be re-used?
A. Once the film has been applied and set, the adhesive will not stick a second time.
Q. After the film has been removed, how do I get any excess adhesive off my vehicle?
A. If any adhesive remains on the vehicle after removal of the film, it can be removed by using 3M™ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (3M Part #08984), according to the package directions.
