MIM leterhead

MILFORD PROVING GROUNDS 2016
July 13-17

Cloaked in secrecy and protected behind layers of security, the Warren Tech Center and Milford Proving Grounds are places of legend, where outsiders are forbidden, and access even within GM is strictly controlled. It is there that new technology and design ideas are invented, developed, tested, refined and proven—and the place where each generation of Corvette has found its form and its power. For most Corvette enthusiasts, these places have only been seen in photographs and glimpses of grainy video, but through a special arrangement with the National Corvette Museum these restricted areas will be opened to a select few as part of this special Museum in Motion event.

Please note that we will have an authorized photographer taking pictures at Milford Proving Grounds. At both GM Design Center and Milford Proving Grounds personal cameras, cell phone cameras, etc are not permitted and can be confiscated if displayed. A DVD with all the pictures will be sent to participants after the pictures are reviewed by GM.

Due to car limitations NO partial packages will be offered for this Museum in Motion.

No cancellations or refunds will be available after July 1st.

Included in registration will be 4-night lodging, some meals, access to all attractions.

2601 West Big Beaver Rd

Troy, MI 48084

Meet n Greet dinner will be held on the beautiful patio at Somerset Inn where we will have a cash bar along with a light dinner which includes assorted wraps, salads, beverage & dessert. (included in registration)
Thursday July 14:

After breakfast in a private dining room at the Somerset Inn, the group will board a motor coach and will proceed to the GM Design Center where you will be met by Designer Tom Peters, then proceeding to the Design Dome for a presentation on 4 Corvettes rarely displayed together. Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter and Marketing Manager Harlan Charles will do a presentation followed by a Q& A session. Susan Skarsgard, who manages the Tech Center archives will give a lecture about the history of the Tech Center. You will then have the opportunity to visit the GM Design Archive to view the current exhibition on the work of former GM Designer, John Perkins

After Lunch (Included in registration) we will then head on over to Pratt & Miller’s world-renowned motor sports operation. A guided tour of the shop will be both interesting and informative.

The MiM participants will return to the Somerset Inn for time and dinner on own including the opportunity to enjoy the Somerset Collection nearby.

Friday July 15:

After breakfast in a private dining room at the Somerset Inn, the group will drive to the all-new GM Global Propulsion. GM’s Powertrain Performance and Racing Center relocates to the Pontiac Campus for a guided tour of their state of the art facility designed to enhance the development processes for the company’s diverse racing engine programs. Please note: You are required to wear long pants and closed toed shoes at GM Global Propulsion.

Lunch will be included in registration at the Moose Preserve Bar & Grill before heading to the General Motors Heritage Center. It serves as a showplace for the vehicles of the GM Heritage Collection, the permanent home for the corporation’s collection of historic literature and artifacts which document GM’s rich history of innovation. The Center has more than 165 vehicles on display. Each of the vehicles in the Collection illustrates a design, technical or sales milestone or accomplishment in the history of General Motors or automotive history.

MiM participants will return to the Somerset Inn for time and dinner on own including the opportunity to enjoy the Somerset Collection nearby.

Saturday July 16:

Once again the group will enjoy a private breakfast at the Somerset Inn and then head west to the Milford Proving Ground for a tour of the test road system. The exact order of activities will be determined shortly but participants will get to drive parade laps on the High Banked Oval that is the scene where the famous movie of the new 1963 Corvettes was filmed. We will visit the Noise and Vibration Lab dyno facility to learn about GM testing procedures.  An opportunity to drive new Corvettes on an autocross course on Black Lake will be provided.  While these drives are in progress, a presentation on the history of the Proving Ground will be given in the MPG service building at Black Lake which is also the site of our pizza party lunch. The participants will also be able to drive laps at parade speeds on the MRC (the Milford Road Course).  Pictures will be taken of the participants and their cars at all of the MPG locations.

Ending banquet will be at the Somerset Inn.

Sunday July 17:

Check out and return home safely!

Thank you for joining us on our MiM Milford Proving Grounds Tour
** This MiM tour is a special event for the Museum due to the extreme unique nature and unparalleled access to these places. We want to thank the people of GM, Milford Proving Grounds, Pratt & Miller and GM Global Propulsion for letting our group into their facilities.

Street Survival @ NCM Motorsports Park | Bowling Green | Kentucky | United States

The Tire Rack Street Survival school is a safe teen program designed to go beyond today’s required driver’s education and give teens across the U.S. the driving tools and hands-on experience to become safer, smarter drivers. Trained and qualified in-car driving instructors as well as classroom experience for each student.

The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival® is a “hands-on” driving experience in real-world situations! We use your own car to teach you about its handling limits and how you can control them. The students will become more observant of the traffic situation they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They will understand why they should always wear their own seatbelts, and why they should insist that their passengers wear seatbelts, too.

It’s about more than driving – it’s about LIVING!
