Thursday, May 26 a unique celebration was held at the Museum, honoring those who fight for our freedom. 79 Corvette enthusiasts from around the country, led by Kentucky State Police, caravanned to Fort Knox and Fort Campbell, picking up wounded warriors and transporting them to Bowling Green for a day of recognition.
"We're so grateful," Lt. Col. Ibata said. "This is great for morale. It makes us feel appreciated and is one of those things that is helping us through the healing process. Thanks to Exxon and the Museum for caring. I hope you'll keep doing it."
The warriors and guests were treated to guided tours of the Museum and Plant, and a special luncheon in the Museum's conference center. Financial support for the event was provided by ExxonMobil, National Association for Uniformed Services, American Legion Post 23 and numerous other individuals, clubs and organizations.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a huge success, and thanks to the warriors for protecting our freedom!
Museum Displays Roy Orbison's Ride
Roy Orbison was one of the world's first car collectors, and took great pride in his collection. His red 1967 Corvette Stingray is now on display at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.
Roy was a big Corvette fan and owned several over the years. The display car was Roy's personal car, used daily to drive to the studio during the making of "The Traveling Wilburys" and "Mystery Girl" albums. It was also the last car that Roy purchased before his death in 1988. The car is on loan from Roy's wife, Barbara Orbison.
Crank up your favorite Orbison tunes and take the scenic drive to Bowling Green this summer to see Roy's car, as well as many other American classics!

2011 Carbon Z06 Winner Drawn!
Congratulations to Gary Bertman of Groton, CT! He held winning ticket #134 in today's drawing for a 2011 Inferno Orange Carbon Edition Z06. We sold 505 of the 1,000 available tickets.
In two weeks, Thursday, June 9, we raffle the chance to "Build Your Own" 2012 Z06 or Grand Sport with $60,000 cash option. The winner can either select a coupe or convertible Grand Sport, Z06 or cash. If a car is selected, pick the color and options, including the new Centennial Edition package. Tickets are only $150 each, and the raffle is limited to 1,500 tickets.
Corvette Racing the GT1 Years. People have been racing Corvettes since about 1955, but until 1998 all of the cars and teams had been privateers. In 1999 Corvette Racing changed all that by becoming the General Motors factory backed professional race team. In this colorful and lavishly illustrated book, Nigel S Dobbie tells the story of all C5R and C6R Corvettes produced by Pratt & Miller engineering, as raced initially by Corvette Racing and subsequently by privateer teams. The book covers in depth all races the cars undertook during the years 1999 to 2009, and includes detailed race histories by chassis of every C5R and C6R Corvette built.
